The History of St. Vincent
Saint Vincent is a small country located in the Caribbean Sea as a part of the chain of Caribbean islands. On the eastern side of the Caribbean chain, St. Vincent is located about one hundred miles to the west of Barbados, another popular tourist destination. St. Vincent’s history is said to have dated back to around 150 AD when Amerindians established settlements there. When the settlers arrived they nicknamed the island “Hairoun” which translates to ‘Land of the Blessed’ in their native language (Source 3). The island of St. Vincent was actually noticed by Christopher Columbus on his way to what he thought was India, but was actually North America back in the 1400’s.
